As important positions are filled, members need to know where their character stands in terms of claiming their own positions. The position requirements thread allows members with the following positions—Headmaster, Deputy Headmaster, Head of House, or Quidditch Captain—to write blurbs on what they look for when appointing other characters to positions or teams.
If you're considering claiming a position for your character, please review the requirements listed by the following characters. Some will not have requirements; others may be stricter than the rest. Please note that, while staff will consider these requirements when reviewing new applications, we will not refuse your character a position without good reason. However, these requirements should be used as a guideline when considering positions.
Headmasters have control over several positions, including: faculty hires (especially professors), heads of houses, and head girl & boy. Though the Deputy Headmaster has influence on these decisions, the final decision is ultimately made by the Headmaster.
Headmaster: Phillipa Hawkins
Those with obvious display of blood prejudices will not be hired. Any opinions they have must be kept to themselves. If they manage to hide it through the interview, any complaints afterwards from students regarding unfair treatment would result in thorough review and be a big strike against them. Pippa would be keen on firing them given the opportunity, if the truth comes to light.
Deputy Headmaster: Benevolence Knightley
The Head of House minimum age is 35. No exceptions.
The minimum age for a professor is a "flexible" 25. They still have to meet qualifications, though.
Non-professor faculty have more leniency in regards to professor rules, as they don't teach a subject and aren't as involved in the students' lives.
Those with criminal backgrounds are highly unlikely to be hired. This counts for those who were criminals, as well as those involved with them. If they were to be hired, Pippa would put them on a really tight leash, and ensure they would be readily supervised in order to ensure no misconduct was happening, and no harm came to the students.
Similarly, anyone who didn't seem to have the student's best interest in mind would likely not be hired. Pippa is more focused on education and the students; the professor has to be able to do their job well.
Those with obvious biases and blatant favouritism for specific groups are likely to have Ben's disapproval. Professors need to be able to take a neutral or unbiased point of view in situations, especially when disagreements between students occur.
Potential faculty with overall negative attitudes, dispositions, and unfriendly demeanors (especially in regards to children) will likely not be hired due to the nature of the job. There's some more flexibility with non-professor positions, but anyone in direct contact with students is preferred to have at least a milder disposition around them.
Ben has a soft spot, and is willing to help those that need it get an interview at Hogwarts, especially those trying to better themselves or find a new path in life. She will not bend rules or make exceptions for you, though.
Those with criminal backgrounds are considered on a case-by-case scenario based on how bad their crime was. Dark wizards, however, are definitively not accepted as applicants due to exposure and potential unrest or anxiety it could cause students.
Similar to Pippa, those with obvious, blatant prejudices based on blood types are unlikely to be hired. Keep it to yourself, and keep it in check, or you will not be considered, or kept on staff for long.
Any faculty members found bullying, abusing, manipulating, and/or taking advantage of students will be strongly considered for dismissal. The students are the #1 priority, and any faculty member that betrays their trust in any way, shape, or form is not welcome in any capacity to the school, regardless how skilled or famous they may be.
HEADS OF HOUSES
After being appointed by the Headmaster, Heads of Houses have control over who they would choose as prefects for their house. They also have some influence over who Head Girl and Head Boy should be.
Head of Gryffindor: Theodosia Ravenscroft
Prefers students with good attitudes over strong academics, though both are important. Expects responsibility towards themselves and their peers. Looks for motivation to succeed and grow as an individual. Favors students who are honest with a level head but aren't afraid to stand up for themselves or others. Has zero tolerance for any prejudices and students who cannot accept responsibility for their own actions.
Head of Hufflepuff: Benevolence Knightley
Avoids picking students who display consistently reckless behavior while looking for individuals who can keep their calm in any situation.
Theodosia views prefects as role models as well as an opportunity to grow. While she won't pick someone who is constantly in detention or someone with failing grades, these things are less important to her than a student with a strong heart and good personality. Ultimately, Theodosia looks for prefects that can be looked up to and aren't afraid to do the right thing.
As an additional note, Theodosia also picks prefects based on their potential, regardless of their popularity. If she thinks assigning someone a prefect status will draw out their capabilities, it's entirely plausible that she would pick the quietest Gryffindor in the room that nobody's even heard of.
Looks for good role models, in both position and character.
Head of Ravenclaw: Manish Tripathy
Likely to pick students with good, clean records; few or zero detentions, decent academics, good relationships with professors and students, etc
Will take into consideration student complaints or problems. If student struggles to get along with others, they're less likely to be chosen, as attitude away from professor's eyes is just as important as during class.
Prefers prefects with a warm, familial auras are preferred, as they need to be welcoming to younger students.
Tough but fair – but not just a rule enforcer, but someone students can talk to. This is especially true for sixth and seventh year prefects, and any potential Head Girl or Boy candidates.
Favours students that have excellent academics and the capacity to take on more than just the regular school workload. Those with the ability to perform under stress and retain composure are also looked towards. Impartiality is a trait he advocates, but he will concede that some rules are meant to be broken.
Head of Slytherin: Leon Baer
Above all, Manish practices a high degree of favoritism - prefects picked by him must have a good relationship with him, be it through their excellent academics, admirable work ethic, or a certain way with words they have with him. Anyone who doesn't get along with him is unlikely to find themselves being offered the position.
Favors students who do well in their classes, extracurricular activities, and have clean records. Likely to pick students who have a close relationship with him and gets along with other students. Any outstanding complaints against the student from other students will be taken into consideration.
Will take into consideration their blood statuses and their opinions of others. Will not choose anyone who has a strong bias against muggles, muggleborns, and half breeds.
Prefers prefects who embody Slytherin house traits, and seem charming, friendly.
After being appointed captain by the Flying Instructor, quidditch captains are permitted to build their team as they see fit. In short, they have control over their teammates.
Gryffindor Captain: Open
Hufflepuff Captain: Zoey Winslow
Assigns positions based on a multitude of things, including: talent, drive, and fairness. Is always open to adding new people to the team!
Ravenclaw Captain: Open
Loves players who love the game. To Zoey, it's more important to do your best than to win. Admires those who always play fair, as well as those who know when to step back if they get riled up.
Takes a lot for her to bench people. Will give most multiple chances/warnings before taking action.
Not particular about what species, gender, etc. her teammates are. Tryouts are open to all!
Slytherin Captain: Maxine Bálor
Players who have been playing with Max for more than a year will be picked over new players / transfers.
Will put younger players on first string, but they’ll have to be exceptional.
Max admires players with finesse, passion, resourcefulness. They must be able to deal with harsh criticism. It’s not discussed, but most of Max’s players have a certain cutthroat quality to them, and are willing to cut corners ( or hurt others ) to win. Those who embody this quality will be her favored players.
Highly unlikely to let any half breed of any blood amount ( veelas, known werewolves, vampires, etc. ) on the team. When they do get chosen, they’ll be placed on reserved teams. Muggleborns might be chosen, but don’t expect a lot of camaraderie from the captain.
